About Baggerbeest

Whoever stands on the western tip of Zeeburgereiland and looks at the enormous sand trucks that seem to move endlessly across the empty plain, will hardly be able to imagine that a new urban district is being build here in the next 15 years, and where more than 11,000 people will live. This will be the Sluisbuurt.

At the beginning of 2023, Urban Resort will start building a new creative broedplaats here: Het Baggerbeest (the Dredge beast). The name refers to the history of the origin of the island on which the Sluisbuurt will be located. More than a hundred years ago, sludge from the Eastern Docklands formed new land here. In the lee of the city, the island has functioned as a refuge, camping site, military training area and even as an airport. The Baggerbeest will be the very first building on the sand plain, making it thé place to lay the cultural anchor point for a city district in the making.

SLUISBUURT
In the coming years there will be a lot of construction in the Sluisbuurt. The Sluisbuurt must ultimately become a city district with an enormous density of residents in towers that sometimes tower a hundred meters above the ground. In addition, thousands of pupils and students will come to the future educational institutions of Hogeschool Inholland and the Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam every day. Living, working, learning and moving are central to this neighbourhood. There will be a mix of social, medium and expensive rental properties and home owners of all sorts. They are intended for all types of households: families, singles, young people, students or seniors.

BAGGERBEEST
With a variety of facilities, Het Baggerbeest (2,800 GFA m2) offers space where everyone can feel at home. The four buildings will house workspaces for 100 creative makers, a youth centre, a neighborhood workshop, educational spaces for educational institutions, catering facilities and a 200 m2 multifunctional space for programming and meet-ups. The Baggerbeest will be in the middle of the developing city district for the next 9.5 years.

PARTNERSHIPS & TENANTS
In the course of 2023 we are looking for creative, artistic and cultural partnerships. In addition to the 76 studios & workspaces, we are looking for partners who want to set up an interesting (cultural) program with us in Baggerbeest. The multifunctional space of 200m2 is very suitable for this, in combination with the catering area of ??250m2. We are also looking for a food & beverage entrepeneur that wants to start their business in this special place. Keep an eye on our offer page for more information!
