Aurélien LEPETIT

Aurélien Lepetit (1992, France) is an Amsterdam based visual artist, designer, videomaker and performer graduating from the Dirty Art Department, Sandberg Instituut in June 2017. Working on site-specific projects, he investigates movement, gestures, and attitudes which challenge what is/should be the normality and how to behave ‘abnormally’.

Pushing boundaries and limits of the standardization of the body beyond gender, sexuality, political, patriarchal and sociological pressures through a pluridisciplinary practice, Lepetit’s work stages multi-medium sets merging sports aesthetics and devices with craftsmanship, ready-mades, live performative format and art installations.

He assisted the curator Florence Parot for the exhibition de Appel timeline: 40+ years of risks conceptualized by Niels van Tomme and has been part of The Wandering School at M^C^O, Milano (IT) (short-listed for the Milano Design Prize for best Experimentation), Off the Record: Design Performs in the Wormhole between Milan and Rotterdam curated by Tamar Shafrir at The Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam (NL), Lucky Larry’s Cosmic Commune, International Design Biennale, St Etienne (FR) and Klankbord Sessies #1, Extrapool, Nijmegen (NL). Lepetit holds an MFA from ENSBA Lyon (École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Lyon) specialized in Exhibition Design and a BA from the same school in Design of Spaces, specialized in Set and Stage Design.
