Daniel Jacoby

Daniel Jacoby’s work spans from film to sculpture, installation and performance. His inventive and indirect approach to the subject matter has lead him to document isolated individuals with eccentric views of the world, re-stage everyday situations in uncanny ways, explore ambiguous concepts with impossible explanations, and create dystopian realities that seem to weirdly shed light on our current livelihoods. The result is often a personal and subjective exploration of topics like outsiderness, belonging, loneliness, friendship, desire and spirituality.

After graduating in fine arts from the University of Barcelona, he furthered his education at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Recent exhibitions include venues like EYE Film Institute (Amsterdam), Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona), The Banff Centre (Alberta), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof (Hamburg), 1646 (The Hague) and Casino Luxembourg (Luxembourg). His short films have won prizes at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Filmadrid, Videoex Zurich and Lima Independiente, as well as shown at festivals such as the Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Les Rencontres Internationales, EMAF, Jeonju IFF and Videobrasil. Daniel has participated in residency programs at the Delfina Foundation (London) and Tokyo Wonder Site (Tokyo).
