“Stitch-In” with Patricia Kaersenhout and guest of honour Emory Douglas
June 12, 19:00 – 21:00
This special workshop on Wednesday June 12, invites you to join in the embroidery and beading of textile works which will become part of ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner Too?’, a monumental solo exhibition by artist Patricia Kaersenhout, coming this autumn to De Appel, guest curated by Vivian Ziherl. The exhibition will honour thirty-eight women of colour who stand as ‘heroines of resistance’ in mythology, history and the present time with a ceremonial dinner-table.
A community embroidery workshop, imagined as a ’Stitch-In”, will be the opportunity to gather around stories of the women honoured, and in the company of guest of honour Emory Douglas, former Minister for Culture of the Black Panther Party. The event will be a social occasion of coming together, story-telling, and consciousness-raising. Embroidery skills are not compulsory.
Please be sure to RSVP as spaces are limited!
